Cosmetic dentistry is a fast moving, highly competitive field, with each year bringing fresh developments, refinements and surprises. While there is a healthy level of competition within cosmetic dentistry, between both suppliers and clinics, there are also great benefits to be gained from cooperation. The British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (BACD) has built its reputation as a leading authority in cosmetic dentistry, helping disseminate the latest techniques and innovations, and raising the standard of dentistry available across the country. The BACD Annual Conference offers dental professionals fantastic opportunities to learn and network, and attracts movers and shakers in the field each and every year.

This year’s Conference will focus on “Delivering Excellence: Tradition vs. Innovation”, with exciting discussions around the topic exploring how we can further deliver outstanding care. Whether you are new to dentistry or a highly accomplished dental professional, a member of the BACD or not, this is an inclusive event that promises to offer considerable insight from speakers and fellow delegates alike. Meeting with likeminded contemporaries is, of course, a boon for networking, but the social benefits of seeing and forming connections with those familiar with your work and its challenges, is also not to be underestimated. Whether passing a few minutes in idle conversation, or forming a lasting connection with a fellow delegate, the BACD Annual Conference provides dental professionals with a valuable opportunity to meet others in what can sometimes feel like a relatively isolated profession.

In addition to what is sure to be an enlightening keynote session, this year’s Annual Conference will feature hands-on workshops and other lectures from a bevy of leading clinicians, including: Dr Luis Bessa, Dr Julian Caplan, Dr Eric van Dooren, Mr Daniel Dunka, Dr Koray Feran, Dr Oliver Harman, Dr Josef Kunkela, Dr Elliot Mechanic, Dr Paolo Nardinocchi, Mr Phil Reddington, Dr Isabella Rochietta, and Dr Tony Rotondo.

The highly accomplished Dr Mauro Fradeani will be presenting an in-depth talk on aesthetic and functional challenges in compromised dentition, with a focus on the theme of balancing tradition and innovation. This is a not-to-be-missed opportunity to gain insight from an eminent and highly experienced practitioner in prosthetic and implant dentistry. Other sessions will be dedicated to intriguing and illuminating topics, such as Dr Rochietta and Dr Feran’s presentation on following a holistic approach to full mouth care. While Dr Eric van Dooren will be pointing to new opportunities in the aesthetic zone, Dr Rotondo will be exploring how to manage complex and interdisciplinary cases with direct resin. Dr Semenza will also be discussing the use of indirect restorations for other complex cases. From persuasive arguments for a philosophical shift in how we consider oral care, to specific technical insights and innovations, there is a huge amount to be gleaned from this year’s BACD Annual Conference. You may find the answer to a question you have not yet asked, see the missing piece in a puzzle, or find an exciting new avenue to explore. Across the three-day Conference, you will be sure to learn many new and interesting things, and be exposed to exciting ideas from some of the keenest minds in the field.

Beyond the energising talks and hands-on workshops available, there will also be a tradeshow exhibition where you will have the chance to explore some of the latest and greatest offerings from a number of leading suppliers. This is an ideal chance to find your next upgrade or pick the brain of friendly professionals, who will be happy to help you with any queries you may have about their equipment and materials, and whether they will be well suited to your needs.

Building on past successes, this November marks the Sixteenth BACD Annual Conference, which will once again be based at the Millennium Gloucester Hotel in London. This is sure to be a popular event, so inquire and book early. Beyond the considerable education and networking opportunities the Conference presents, the exclusive Gala Dinner is also not to be missed. This is an opportunity to look your best, socialise and enjoy some terrific food.

BACD has a mission to aid and enhance the education and opportunities of all dentists, including those at the beginning of their careers. As part of this effort, the winner of the BACD Foundation Dentist Case Presentation Award 2019 will receive a complimentary place at the Annual Conference, including travel, accommodation and a ticket to the Gala Dinner. The winner will also get the opportunity to shadow one of the committee members, as well as a year’s membership to the Academy. The competition is open to any foundation dentist within the United Kingdom or Republic of Ireland, and the closing date is Friday the 20thof September. Further details are available on the BACD website.
