With its world-class line-up of engaging speakers, the BACD’s Sixteenth Annual Conference promises to be a truly dynamic and insightful event. Delegates from across the dental profession are invited to join a diverse three-day educational programme, where they will be able to meet likeminded colleagues, network with industry experts, and explore the latest innovations within cosmetic dentistry. Whether you are a dental student, a newly qualified dentist, or a highly experienced clinician, the BACD Annual Conference should be on your calendar for 2019.

As in previous years, the range of topics covered at this event will be vast. From digital smile design and aesthetic challenges, to treatment planning concepts, dental implantology, and composite restorations – there will be something of interest for everyone. With a distinct focus on “Delivering Excellence: Tradition vs. Innovation”, delegates will learn how to deliver beautiful cosmetic dental treatments by utilising a combination of traditional and innovative techniques, materials and technologies. Among the speakers who are eager to explore this theme in depth at the Annual Conference is Dr Paolo Nardinocchi, who will be presenting a hands-on workshop on “BOPT: Aesthetic Management of Peri-Prosthetic Soft Tissue”.

After graduating in Dentistry and Dental Prosthesis from the D’Annunzio University of Chieti in 2002, Dr Nardinocchi went on to achieve his post-graduate qualifications in Implant Prosthesis at New York University in 2005. He has become an expert in dental implant surgery, periodontal surgery, and prosthetic and aesthetic rehabilitations. As well as attending numerous dental courses and conferences throughout the year, Dr Nardinocchi lectures both nationally and internationally in order to help other dentists hone their clinical skills and enhance their knowledge. He is looking forward to sharing his professional insights during an interactive hands-on workshop at this year’s BACD Annual Conference.

Speaking about his session, he says: “The Biologically Oriented Preparation Technique (BOPT) is a new approach for achieving periodontally healthy teeth using feather-edge preparation and the prosthesis itself to shape the gum. This enables the clinician to achieve the ideal aesthetic gingival architecture and long-term soft tissue stability following treatment.

“Maintaining soft and hard tissue stability over time – especially in aesthetic areas – has become a highly relevant topic within dental implantology. A new transmucosal implant with a convergent collar design has been developed to address the issues associated with maintaining soft and hard tissue stability, shifting the focus of BOPT on natural teeth to the prosthesis on implants. I will explore this subject in detail during my session at the BACD Annual Conference, which I hope will be revolutionary for delegates.

“We will explore the biological rationale of the convergence concept that is currently changing dental implantology and prosthetics. Delegates should be able to understand how a convergent collar implant design can help them achieve optimal aesthetics and tissue stability with regard to implants and natural teeth. I will also demonstrate how BOPT and vertical preparation techniques can help simplify daily clinical procedures.

“When delegates go back to practice the following Monday morning, I hope they realise that preparing the teeth vertically is much easier than doing so horizontally. Furthermore, once they understand the biological principles behind why the convergence concept works for the enhancement and stability of the tissues around implants and teeth, delegates will not go back to traditional procedures and concepts.”

There’s no doubt Dr Nardinocchi’s session will be as enlightening as the many other lectures and hands-on workshops that will be presented at this year’s BACD Annual Conference. Also taking to the stage to discuss the latest trends and developments in cosmetic dentistry is Dr Mauro Fradeani, Dr Mario Semenza, Dr Tony Rotondo, Dr Josef Kunkela, Mr Daniel Dunka, Dr Elliot Mechanic, Mr Phil Reddington, Dr Oliver Harman, Dr Julian Caplan, Dr Eric van Dooren, Dr Isabella Rochietta, Dr Koray Feran and Dr Luis Bessa.

The Academy’s flagship event is an absolute must for any aspiring dental professional seeking to excel and refine all aspects of their work. The Annual Conference caters to various interests, providing the ideal platform for delegates to socialise with friends, colleagues, and internationally-renowned experts from the field. Beyond this, there will also be plenty of chances for you to explore an exciting tradeshow exhibition, where leading manufacturers will be showcasing a wide range of innovative products.

As one of the highlights of the dental calendar, the BACD’s Sixteenth Annual Conference is sure to offer three days of compelling dental education and near-limitless networking opportunities. Be sure to save the dates in your diary and keep an eye out for the release of tickets. You won’t want to miss out!
