For many years, the British Society of Dental Hygiene and Therapy (BSDHT) has offered dental hygienists, dental therapists and students of the profession the chance to learn, network and expand in their careers with its flagship event – the Oral Health Conference (OHC).

After last year’s exceptional digital event, this year the OHC has returned to its usual format by gathering delegates together at the SEC in Glasgow for a weekend filled with fantastic learning opportunities, chances to network with likeminded individuals and more.

Building on the theme from last year (SEE and be seen), the OHC this year is taking a similar approach with a programme that is geared towards helping professionals focus on evolving their skills, engaging with their local communities and exploring ways to expand in their roles and the greater industry.

The programme has also been designed to touch on highly pertinent topics in the industry right now, giving delegates the opportunity to stay informed and to apply all of the latest ideas to their professional lives.

For example, Claire Stevens will be presenting a session entitled “Paediatric Dentistry in a Brave New World” where she will reveal the latest information and techniques used to offer safe treatment for children. This will be especially pertinent as the pandemic has had a significant impact on the oral health of children across the country.

Another exciting session planned for the event is one by Laura McClune called “The disposable dental hygienist? Professional sustainability and growth”. This session will help professionals to explore their own careers and help them to identify areas where they can branch out and embrace new opportunities. It will also focus on ensuring that professionals are aware of how important their roles are to dental practices and hammer home the fact that dental hygienists and dental therapists are an invaluable asset.

Other topics scheduled for the show include caries management, how to deliver a good presentation, the myths surrounding prescribing and interpreting radiographs and many, many more. As you can see, this is an interesting blend of topical industry subjects as well as more general sessions that are geared to help delegates develop their skills. Those attending the show can choose the sessions that best suit their goals and needs for a tailored learning experience.

As always, the OHC comes with a number of great networking opportunities and the chance for people to let their hair down after a day of learning. Meet old friends, network with colleagues, form new connections – the social aspect is at the very heart of the OHC, so as well as using it as an opportunity to learn, professionals are also guaranteed a very good time!
