The Straumann Group Foundation (SGF) and Dentaid The Dental Charity have launched a multi-year partnership to expand access to essential dental care for people experiencing homelessness, poverty, harm and abuse in the United Kingdom, and to enable female survivors of domestic abuse to access restorative dental treatment.

This meaningful initiative builds on the longstanding collaboration between Straumann Group UK and Dentaid — including years of joint fundraising efforts such as the Straumann Group Charity Bike Ride, which has raised support for Dentaid’s mobile outreach services across the UK.

Through dedicated multi-year funding, the Straumann Group Foundation will support Dentaid in delivering mobile charity dental clinics and developing pathways to longer-term restorative care for individuals facing complex life circumstances, who may benefit from additional outreach and community-based support.

Delivering care where it is needed most

Dentaid will deploy its mobile dental units across the south east and north west of England, working alongside charities and local support providers that host and serve vulnerable communities.

The initiative will provide urgent and preventive dental treatment, oral health advice, and oral cancer screening, with referrals into secondary care where clinically required. Services may include extractions, restorative treatments and preventive care, delivered within a patient-centred model which prioritises safety, dignity and continuity of care.

The initiative is designed to complement existing healthcare structures in the UK. By partnering with local charities, health inclusion teams and referral networks, Dentaid supports individuals with additional healthcare needs who require a more flexible approach to their care, while ensuring patients can be referred into mainstream services where appropriate.

Clinics are delivered in trusted community settings, allowing vulnerable individuals to get access to appropriate dental care which can improve their wellbeing and long-term oral health.

Supporting restorative journeys for survivors of domestic abuse

In addition to frontline clinics, the collaboration will support selected female survivors of domestic abuse in accessing restorative dental treatment, including implant-based solutions where clinically appropriate.

Working with volunteer clinicians and partner charities, Dentaid will identify women who may benefit from restorative care and help them begin their treatment journey. Beyond improving oral health, the initiative seeks to support recovery, self-confidence and long-term wellbeing.

Advancing a shared mission

Alastair Robertson, President of the Straumann Group Foundation, said: “This partnership is about strengthening the ecosystem of care. By supporting Dentaid’s outreach model, we are helping extend oral healthcare into community settings, working alongside existing services to ensure vulnerable individuals receive the care and continuity they need.”

Stephen Booth, Head of Hub Northern Europe and General Manager of Straumann Group UK, added: “Our work with Dentaid in the UK long predates this grant — from cycling hundreds of miles for charity to supporting mobile dental units on the ground. This collaboration with the Straumann Group Foundation builds on that shared history, reinforcing our commitment to community-centred outreach and empowering local partners who are delivering compassionate care where it’s needed most.”

Andrew Evans, CEO of Dentaid The Dental Charity, said: “We are hugely grateful for the support of the Straumann Group Foundation in allowing us to extend our services to more people in critical need of dental care.

“Collaborative work is vitally important in ensuring our mobile dental clinics can visit local support organisations and provide those they work with the highest possible levels of guidance with their oral health.

“By continuing to deliver outreach services that complement established care pathways, we can help our patients’ long-term oral health needs and allow them to move towards a new stage in their lives.”

The partnership reflects the Straumann Group Foundation’s commitment to improving access to oral healthcare for underserved communities and to ensuring that no one should live with dental pain or be unable to smile due to lack of access to basic dental care.

Dentaid delivers its services as a regulated provider under the UK’s Care Quality Commission framework and in compliance with applicable charity and governance standards. The programme will include structured monitoring and impact reporting to ensure quality, accountability and sustainable outcomes.

Creating sustainable impact

The initiative is designed to strengthen collaboration with local charities, health inclusion teams and public authorities. By integrating services into existing support networks and encouraging onward referrals, the partnership aims to contribute to long-term access to care and reduced stigma around oral health within vulnerable populations.

Together, the Straumann Group Foundation and Dentaid are working to improve quality of life through access to oral healthcare — restoring comfort, dignity and confidence to those who need it most.
