Community Dental Services CIC (CDS CIC) attended the Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Care Association’s Spring Conference at Nottingham’s Albert Hall, engaging with around 150 delegates from across the region’s adult social care sector to highlight the importance of oral health.

The event provided an opportunity for CDS CIC to support peers in understanding the vital role oral health plays in overall wellbeing, dignity, and quality of life. The team shared information on oral health training, resources and support available to care providers, while Oral Health Improvement Practitioners delivered a presentation on the impact of good oral health practices for people receiving care.

Jennifer Baitup, Strategic Oral Health Lead, said: “Good oral health is essential for vulnerable older people because it supports their ability to eat, speak, and maintain dignity; while helping to prevent pain, infection, and wider health complications that can significantly impact their overall wellbeing and quality of life. It was fantastic to see such strong interest in our Oral Health Champion training and accredited Lifelong Smiles programme. These initiatives give care professionals the skills, knowledge, and confidence to promote good oral health and support residents in maintaining healthy mouths throughout later life. By empowering care teams, we can help improve wellbeing and quality of life for the people they care for every day.”

The conference also enabled CDS CIC to build relationships with care providers, local authorities, and regulatory bodies, promoting collaborative approaches to improving oral health outcomes for vulnerable adults.

By sharing best practice and supporting care teams, CDS CIC continues to champion oral health as a key part of person-centred care and overall wellbeing.
